Adelabu kicked off his career at PriceWaterhouse and later joined First Atlantic Bank, where he rose to the position of Chief Inspector. His journey continued at Standard Chartered Bank before becoming the Executive Director/Chief Financial Officer at First Bank of Nigeria Plc. He was appointed Deputy Governor, Operations of the Central Bank of Nigeria by former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2014.

Involvement in Various Boards:

Adelabu’s influence extends to several boards, including the Nigeria InterBank Settlement Systems (NIBBS), Financial Institution Training Centre (FITC), Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), Nigeria Security Printing and Minting Company (NSPMC), Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), and Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk-Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL).

Gubernatorial Aspirations:

In 2019, Adelabu contested for the governorship of Oyo State under the All Progressives Congress (APC) but lost to Oluwaseyi Makinde of the People Democratic Party. He later switched to the Accord Party in 2022 after resigning from the APC.

Ministerial Appointment:
